Reeds for Advanced Players

These are oboe reeds made with selected Alliaud cane that is gouged with a Kunibert Michel machine at 0.57-0.58mm. They are then shaped by hand using a Rieger 1A shaper and tied on to Glotin type staples. We use Glotin type staples as we think they are the best for achieving real freedom in the higher register of the oboe. All are then wired low down as the function of the wire is not to keep the reed open, but to give it support. We rely on the natural tension of the cane to create the aperture, thus letting the reed vibrate in its natural state. Fish skin, not plastic, is then generally used to complete the reed, ensuring there is no leakage.
